Amazon.ia Core Sites

The ground-level foundation that makes the Amazon.ia initiative possible. By deploying advanced sensors—from camera traps and bioacoustics to eDNA—core sites capture continuous, high-fidelity data on wildlife and ecosystem health that bridge the gap between remote satellite observation and complex realities under the canopy. These core sites are supplemented by a wide array of constellation sites in working lands, restoration areas, and Indigenous and local communities, giving a fuller picture of conditions and pressures in a rapidly changing Amazon.

A Unified, Biome-Wide Network

"We aim to shift from fragmented, localized data collection to a unified, biome-wide network generating actionable insights at multiple scales."

By working together and sharing data across diverse ecosystems and conditions, Amazon.ia creates a continuous, interconnected flow of information. This infrastructure allows us to track biodiversity status, monitor ecosystem health, and detect changes with unprecedented accuracy across the entire Amazon basin.

Madidi
Madidi
Situated within the world's most biologically diverse protected area, Madidi National Park and Natural Integrated Management Area, and overlapping with three Indigenous territories, the Tuichi River is one of Bolivia’s most important ecotourism sites. Long-term wildlife monitoring in the valley has already contributed regionally relevant findings on some of the Amazon’s most charismatic and intriguing species including the jaguar, tapir, giant anteater, white-lipped peccary, ocelot, and short-eared dog.

Empowering action on the ground

"To unlock a paradigm shift in decision-making at every scale."

The goal of this large-scale biological monitoring is to transform raw environmental data into meaningful, actionable insights at scale. By networking core sites together and co-developing insights directly with local communities, conservation organizations, and regional policymakers, we ensure our technological innovation meets real-world needs. Our AI-powered platforms equip Amazonian leaders with the robust, cost-effective intelligence needed to drive lasting conservation and restoration.
